I often hesitate to call things “the best” because it sets an expectation that might not be met; however, these are the best instant pot ribs you will have AND they are super easy to prepare.
Most rib recipes require time, and lots of it; because ribs are a tougher cut of meat, they require long cooking to break down tough connective tissues and fibres. But who has 5 hours on a weekday to make ribs? Pas moi!
So this instant pot ribs recipe makes a 5 hour job less than 1 hour- believe it!
Because Instant Pots are pressure cookers (among other things) they facilitate the ease of prep of long cooking ingredients, and not just meats; think dry beans, beets, sweet potato, squash and the like. The Instant Pot is an AMAZING tool if you want to *actually* meal plan throughout the week.

Now back to the Best Instant Pot Ribs Recipe…
You’ll need an Instant Pot for this recipe, which goes without saying, but you would also be guided along with a sauce brush (silicone is ALWAYS the vibe) and parchment paper- never not using parchment paper!
- 3 racks of beef ribs
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp granulated garlic
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
In an instant pot, add water, salt and pepper; place on the lid, close the steam valve and set the pressure cook to 25 minutes.
Meanwhile…
Preheat oven to 395F.
In a pot heat the oil on medium heat, and add the onions and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until they become translucent and fragrant. Add the remaining ingredients and cook, stirring for an additional 5-7 minutes.
Back to the Instant Pot…
Once the timer goes off, allow the pot to Naturally Release for 10 minutes (ie. don’t touch it for 10 minutes), then quick release (opening the pressure valve). Then remove the ribs from the instant pot, remove any excess liquid and lay flat on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush on the bbq sauce, liberally- and bake the ribs in the oven for 10 minutes.
Voila, juicy, tender and didn’t-take-5-hours ribs!
