As a chef, some assume that I love to spend hours in the kitchen preparing meals; and while I do enjoy a leisurely cooking session, I reside in the real world, where time is of the essence.
Having a few star recipes that are quick, easy and delicious comes part and parcel with meal prep and planning success; which is delivered in spades by this recipe.
One of the reasons I love turkey sausage is because it can be so many things in the kitchen.
- Serve whole in a bun- yum.
- Chop and serve as cocktail weiners.
- Remove from casing and use in pasta- as in this case.
I like to buy my turkey sausage from a butcher because I find that there are always delicious varieties for me to choose from; that said, almost every single neighbourhood grocery store will have turkey sausage varieties that will keep your interest peaked for many recipes to come!
For this recipe all you need is 20 minutes, which will be used expertly as we multitask. As the water boils for pasta, we remove the sausage from the casing and cook it in a skillet. By the time the pasta has finished cooking, the sausage is ready, and then this recipe becomes an assembly job.
Add the salsa, cooked (and drained) pasta, cilantro and lemon zest and VOILA, dinner in twenty!
Gluten Free 20-Minute Turkey Sausage Pasta
- 3 turkey sausage (I used spicy red pepper), meat removed from casing
- 1 package lentil pasta, cooked according to package instructions
- ⅓ cup prepared fresh salsa (spice preference is dealer’s choice)
- Zest and juice of 2 limes
- ⅓ cup cilantro leaves, chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp olive oil
Boil water for pasta and cook the pasta according to package directions.
Heat oil in a skillet on medium high heat and add the turkey sausage; cook for 10 minutes until the meat becomes opaque. By this time the pasta should be ready.
Add the pasta, salsa, lime zest + pulp and cilantro leaves and season to taste.
Combine and serve hot.
Dinner in a hurry, that tastes like you laboured all day!
